Session summary

Training and capacity building programs in regional climate downscaling are vital especially in developing countries. Implementing them in a coordinated fashion under the CORDEX umbrella would be useful. This session primarily provides a platform for exchanges of experiences and best practices from some of the organized CORDEX trainings / workshops. The outcomes could lead to a drafting of some guidelines/standards that anyone can and are recommended to use as a baseline when organizing a ‘CORDEX training/workshop’.

Session description

Training and capacity building programs in regional climate downscaling are vital especially in developing countries. Implementing them in a coordinated fashion under the CORDEX umbrella would be useful.  In relation to this there are a number of relevant questions that may need to be discussed such as: What are the practical basics needed, approximately how many participants and how many days are optimal for different kinds of workshops, the approximate cost in different domains, what tools are needed/recommended for dynamical/statistical downscaling and for viewing/analyzing data, do the participants need some prescribed background, what competence/experience is needed from lecturers. There have been a number of such training workshops conducted in Asia, Africa and recently in South America. This D-session primarily provides a platform for exchanges of experiences and best practices from some of the organized CORDEX trainings/workshops. The outcomes could lead to a drafting of some guidelines/standards that anyone can and are recommended to use as a baseline when organizing a ‘CORDEX training/workshop’.
