On 14-18 October 2019, the International Project Office for CORDEX hosted at the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) and the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) is co-organizing the fourth International Conference for Regional Climate, ICRC-CORDEX 2019, in Beijing, China.

The WCRP global collaborative initiative “Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment” (CORDEX) aims to develop and provide detailed, regional climate information necessary for vulnerability, impact and adaptation studies at local and regional levels.  CORDEX results will be prominent in the next assessment report currently in preparation by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
CORDEX is working to meet the increasing need for reliable regional climate information communicated in a manner enabling effective impact and adaptation planning.

CORDEX domains cover all land areas plus the Arctic, the conference is thus a matter of global importance. Some of these regions face alarming consequences from climate change, which calls for urgent mitigation and adaptation measures.

The conference will offer presentations and discussions on modelling predictions of climate change and its impacts and application where possible topics may be climate change in view of energy options, water security, sustainability, and mitigation/adaptation strategies.

The conference will also cover issues such as the benefits of downscaling with questions of biases and uncertainties, further development of regional Earth System Models, and will provide a platform for scientists and users from all parts of the globe to meet and advance capacity development, training and knowledge exchange as well as to build new and enhance existing co-operations.
